Really Like It The Rutles (1978) -- Directed with Eric Idle.  Watch The Beatles Anthology or The Compleat Beatles and then watch this and you'll see that it's a perfect parody of the Beatles (as well as a parody of certain kinds of documentaries).  Few moments in the Beatles story are left uncovered.  Some of the jokes are obvious and broad, but some are nice and subtle.  One of my favorites is that they made the George Harrison-type character an Indian.  The sound-alike songs are great too.  (Eric Idle directs the sequel, The Rutles 2: Can't Buy Me Lunch.)

Like It Wholly Moses! (1980) -- Funnier than you'd think for a movie that's essentially the same idea of The Life of Brian: just with Moses instead of Jesus.
