German director of Golem movies and more.

The Golem (1920) -- Directed with Karl Boese. This is the first surviving Golem movie (there were two others in 1914 and 1917), the first horror trilogy in movies. Luckily, this is a prequel, so you don't need to see the first two to know what's going on. The movie is more exciting, or at least weirder, than a lot of silent movies thanks to some interesting set pieces: the clay monster being brought to life by summoning a devil with a ring of fire being one of them.
