Ron Underwood

Maker of family entertainment for grownups.

Tremors (1990) -- A decent movie that could have been so much better if handled just a touch differently.  The movie has a nice tone and idea: some likable hillbillies (Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward, Reba McEntire, and others) are attacked by flesh-eating giant worms who can burrow under the ground with crazy speeds and strength.  The problem is that the movie blows its wad in the first twenty minutes and then becomes repetitive from there on.  We should have seen bits of the monster here and there until finally it explodes from the ground near the end in a huge surprise.  As it is, when it explodes early on, you almost miss it.  In spite of its flaws, the movie is more or less entertaining and has a lot of good laughs. City Slickers (1991) -- Pretty entertaining, sometimes funny, Billy Crystal movie. (Paul Weiland directs the sequel, City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly's Gold.) C
