Thomas Vinterberg

Danish friend of Lars Von Trier.

Dear Wendy (2005) -- I watched this because Lars Von Trier wrote the screenplay, but you could tell just from watching it that the script had been altered and stupidified considerably by the time it was shot.  The interview with Von Trier and Vinterberg on the DVD proved this point, Lars making little jabs at the movie and the script itself which he probably considered a throwaway.  The movie might be halfway watchable if it weren't for the voice-over narration saying things like "The gun felt smooth and nice in my pocket," like some loser in an intro to creative writing class.  This is one of those movies that's both interested in its problematic subject matter (here guns) while constantly judging it, saying nothing significant either way.
