Jeff Wayne is the guy who did musical versions for War of the Worlds and Spartacus. That is all ye need know.

War of the Worlds (1978) -- A decent-enough mix of progressive rock, musical, rock opera, and whatever else this was supposed to be, held together by the cool Richard Burton's narrative of the H.G. Wells story. The best parts are when Jeff Wayne finds a good rock lick and milks it. The worst parts are when he writes a sappy or bad song. Julie Covington is also one of my favorite musical singers, even though she's not featured too much. C
