Paul Verhoeven

Big crazy budget sometimes dirty guy.

Robocop (1987) -- A funny, bloody movie with great over-the-top acting and great little social commentary cutaways that sometimes feel like they're threatening to become their own film, in the style of The Kentucky Fried Movie.  Even though it's only a little over an hour and a half, the movie feels a little long, probably because you can only milk the joke for so long.  Slick and smart stuff, it only feels slightly dated. (See Irvin Kirshner for the sequel, Robocop 2.) B

Total Recall (1990) -- Kind of fun and crazy, but overall not that great to me. C

Showgirls (1995) -- He'd made a huge hit previously by showing Sharon Stone's cooch in Basic Instinct, so in this movie, he just shows everyone's everything. The movie was so boring, though, that I barely got to any substantial naked bits before I shut it off. The best thing about this movie is that, when they play it on TV, they make digital bras to cover up the boobs. D
